Today we celebrated International Dot Day. We read the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds and we made our own 'mark on the world'. We colored our own dots and then used the coLAR app to make them into 3D pictures. Please look at our Photo Gallery below. We ended our little celebration with a dot snack!

Our teacher read us the book: Because of Winn-Dixie.

Reading using the strategy, Check For Understanding means: stopping when you read and asking yourself "Who is the story about?" and "What's happening?"

Secret to success:
Knowing you have to understand the who and what in the book.

We are reading the book "Because of Winn-Dixie" to practice checking for understanding. One thing that has happened is: A little girl found a dog and made up the name Winn-Dixie. She took it to her dad.

Who -  Winn-Dixie, Opal/India, her dad

Doing what - Winn-Dixie knocked things down in a store, Opal took the dog home and the dad said she can keep Winn-Dixie.

What book are you reading? Who is doing what in your story?

We are so excited to meet all of the student who will be in our class this year!

In 3SB we have 2 teachers. Mrs. Sahlin teaches most mornings for 3-5 periods. She will be teaching you language arts and gym. We will be reading, writing, blogging and connecting with the world. Our first international event will be Dot Day!

Ms. Badall will be teaching you all afternoons and all day Friday. She teaches math, science, social studies, art, health and gym. In science, we will start the year learning about rocks and minerals.

We are a Daily  5 classroom and we look forward to working with students to become independent learners!  Please contact

We had a wonderful day at Ellis Bird Farm, from exploring bones in owl pellets and pond dipping, to feeding hungry goats and building birdhouses!

A big thank you to our guides and great family helpers!

Despite the rain, our Sports Day was awesome! We all participated with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Fortunately we were able to make it to four stations before the storm hit.

Several 3SB students were awards ribbons for Accelerated Reader points today.  Great work!

We will be having an assembly Tuesday, June 11th at 1:50 to show our appreciation to all of the volunteers that have helped us out this year at Iron Ridge Elementary Campus.

Please come and enjoy some performances by the students to say 'Thank You' for your dedication to our school.

This is a blog post  about this assembly in May.
In Assembly you will watch people, do plays and  and  celebrate our school.
And they  give out  teacher of the month award and the student of the month.
Then at the end its the mane event and the judge picks a class to  play. Then they win money for the class.

At the assembly 2T did a play on the Ugly Duckling and showed some people stuff we found on pitch in day.

On Friday, 3SB went to the Field House!!! We had so much fun there because we got to wear hard hats, Mr. Terry gave us a tour around the the Field House and took questions about the Field House. So it was pretty awesome. We got to see the blue prints for the construction. It was so fun to go around and all the stuff that was going on. Mr.Terry was soooo nice!!! I was amazed at all the cool stuff that was going on!!!! If you ever get to go to the Field House, make sure to thank Mr.Terry. Most of the building is made out of steel. The walk there was about 25 min. When we got there I saw people on the roof. Luckily they where wearing a harness, bright vests and ropes attached to the harness. There was a huge crane there that lifts things onto the roof!!! It was very loud there. 3SB had a lot of fun there!!!

It's hard to believe that we are down to our last two months of school!

Our class has been working hard and we are looking forward to our first Provincial Achievement Tests which will begin soon.

Please see the list below for the dates of these tests and mark them on your calendar at home.

You can help your child to be successful by encouraging them to be relaxed and comfortable. Also, a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and getting to school on time on these days is very important!

There is an online parent guide to Achievement Tests, which includes some sample questions that you may find useful. Please click on the link below.
